Paloma Picasso grew up the daughter of an artist (yes, that Picasso), and can herself be considered a work of art with her first-class female form. Born in Paris, France, as Ann Paloma Gilot, the eccentric enchantress made her mark as a fashion designer, who also became her best creation. Paloma stood out in the ‘70s with pale skin contrasted by bright-red lipstick and dark hair, a look so original it would later be immortalized then popularized by the all-femme band in Robert Palmer’s now-legendary music videos for “Addicted to Love,” “Simply Irresistible” “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”). On her cinema resume, the personality has only one acting credit where she plays someone else—but what a role it is! In the bizarre, arthouse film Immortal Tales(1973), Paloma plays Elisabeth Bathory—and there is so very much nudity to explore in the flick, with some presented in kind of peculiar ways. Case in point: Paloma’s character is in the bath, and the camera zooms in on several tight shots that expertly enlighten us of the furriness of her kitty, how chipper her nipples truly are, how taut her tummy and how posh her posterior—covered in blood, because the bath water isn’t water. She is thoroughly rinsed off before the end of the scene but a few crimson memories remain… Fortunately, not every naughty naked nano-second is in need of a hose; there are several scenes where it’s just plain Paloma and her supple sexiness au natural, one even with a fellow bush partner. Good thing Immortal Tales was so thorough with giving us all of Paloma in actress mode, since she never again appeared as anyone but herself in a variety of TV series and documentaries.
