An Argentine bachelor is left to fend for himself in one of the country’s most sumptuous resort towns in the light-hearted comedy Camarero nocturno en Mar del Plata (1986). Director Gerardo Sofovich returned from a lengthy hiatus to lens a splashy comic romp about two friends who arrive at Mar del Plata with grand designs for their summer. The pals’ plans go awry, however, and before long its splitsville for the ambitious bachelors. One of the men heads back to Buenos Aires, while the other sticks around to try his luck as a beachcomber by day and waiter by night. The day job ends up being the better end of the bargain, however, as Susana Traverso sans swimsuit is just one of the many treasures that roll in with the tide.
