Awesomely afro’d comedian Gabe Kaplan translated his stand-up shtick about growing up in Brooklyn to his role as the titular teacher returning to work in his high school in Welcome Back, Kotter. Among Kotter’s students were the self-titled “Sweat Hogs”: Vinnie Barbarino (John Travolta), Arnold Horshack (Ron Palillo), Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs), and Juan Epstein (Robert Hegyes). Villainy came in the form of Vice Principal Woodman (John Sylvester White), while Bensonhurst bimbo Rosalie “Hotsy” Totsy (Debralee Scott) was always good for a different kind of wood, man.
