Who is Andrea Bang?

Born in Burnaby, British Columbia to Korean immigrant parents, Andrea started taking acting lessons while she was pursuing her degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia. She graduated in 2012 but continued to keep her acting dreams a secret, fearing she would disappoint her parents. Once she landed an agent and started getting steady work, Andrea broke the news to her family and now her parents are totally on board, especially after she took home Best Actress (Summer Award) at the Asians on Film Festival for her on-screen debut in the 2015 short film Playdate. Since then she’s had multiple roles in film and television, including the miniseries Sunnyhearts Community Centre (2016), the high school-set comedy Adventures in Public School (2017), the late coming-of-age film The Prodigal Dad (2018), and the mystery thriller Luce (2019) with Naomi Watts, though none of her clothes had come Luce on camera just yet. She also has a fair amount of experience behind the camera as the writer of a number of short films such as Playdate (2015), Karaoke Mamas (2018), and In Loving Memory (2019).

Her screen career started to heat up when she landed the recurring role of Janet on the streaming series Kim’s Convenience from Netflix. The story of a Korean-Canadian family running a convenience store is actually the first Canadian comedy starring an Asian-led cast, and it slowly gained steam (and diehard fans) over its five funny seasons, thanks in part to the presence of Marvel and Barbie’s Simu Liu.
