This classic beauty of the silver screen started acting on at age 13, after her parents had moved the family from Indiana to New York City. She made a name for herself on the Broadway stage and then made her way west to conquer Hollywood, first getting signed to a seven-year contract with Twentieth Century Fox. She would go on to star in several noteworthy films, including five Best Picture nominees, with her most memorable roles being Lucy Morgan in Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), Sophie MacDonald in The Razors’ Edge (1946 - which won her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar), and the conniving Eve in All About Eve (1950). In 1956, she nabbed the role of the epically stunning Egyptian Queen Nefertiti in The Ten Commandments, a performance that was rightfully praised as the epitome of grace and seduction in the 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar. The Golden Age of Hollywood isn’t known for nudity, but eagle eye fans have pointed out that the alluring Anne shows more skin than intended during an outdoor shower scene in 1954’s Carnival Story. She’d eventually move to the small screen, appearing in dozens of show and televisions movies before her death in 1985, such as Marcus Welby M.D., East of Eden, The Love Boat, and Hotel, plus she has the distinction of being the only person to play two different villains on the 1960’s Batman series. If only we’d gotten to see more of Anne’s dynamic duo!
