A self-described “nice Jewish girl,” Ellen F. Steinberg was born into a household of academics in Pennsylvania and had a shy life while growing up in Los Angeles. But when she began working as a cashier at an adult film theater, she decided to spread her wings (among other things) and enter the burgeoning porn industry of the 1970s.
