Although she spent her formative years overshadowed by a wooden dummy, Candice Bergen's star has risen to outshine both that of her father, ventriloquist Edgar Bergen, and his lacquered collaborator, Charlie McCarthy. Her fair Irish complexion and innate sense of grace seem distinctly European, but Candice was born in the USA's own little Beverly Hills. Considering her hometown, her father's profession, her regally borne beauty, and her seemingly effortless mastery of the acting craft, it was inevitable that young Ms. Bergen should gravitate toward show business.
