Philadelphia native Gia Carangi was considered by many to be the first supermodel and she is perhaps best known for the biopic made about her in the late 90s starring Angelina Jolie! During her sadly short life, Gia graced the cover of Vogue and Cosmo multiple times and modeled for such illustrious fashion houses as Versace, Dior, Armani, and YSL. Gia moved to New York City at 17, signing with renowned agent Wilhelmina Cooper and landing her first major photoshoot shortly after turning 18. Sadly Gia's life soon spiraled out of control, eventually succumbing to a heroin addiction that led to her untimely death in November 1986 from AIDS related complications, but her memory lives on as new generations continue to discover her! Gia even got a second life when she was featured in the 2023 Apple TV+ Original Series The Super Models, bringing this all-time legend into the age of streaming!
