First, the acting gig…The Rhode-Island born beauty made her debut as Marie Demere in the TV series Jericho, and made her claim to fame as the character Jill Smith on the popular show Peyton Place in 1968. She starred as Superchick in the comedy Superchick (1973) with John Carradine, and while one of the shots of her bare breasts was a body double, you can see her actual boobs in the bathtub and between the sheets. She had guest-starring roles on Columbo, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Lou Grant, Police Woman, B.J. and the Bear, and The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo. Now, the astrology gig… Joyce was into astrology in a big way, and shared her talents with a lot of high-profile people and companies. She was the official astrologer for 20th Century Fox Studios, and helped pick the opening date for Star Wars in 1977. She also wrote a daily astrology column that was published in almost 200 newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times and the New York Daily News. Joyce also appeared on radio and television with her astrology skills, and made forecasts for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Ford as part of her gig on KABC Radio. And, she was even linked to the White House in the Reagan era—if you’re a history buff, you’ll remember that Nancy Reagan was outed as having consulted with astrologers. Joyce died in October 2004 at the age of 58, due to kidney failure.
