Born in East Berlin, Katharina Thalbach is one of Germany’s most respected stage actresses, working mostly in Hamburg and Berlin, as well as a prolific performer on both the big screen and little screen. The daughter of successful actress Sabine Thalbach and writer/director Benno Besson, and the mother of Anna Thalbach, a popular German actress, Katharina has been surrounded by talent her whole life. Most known in the US for her role as Wanda in Sophie’s Choice (1982) with Meryl Streep, she has over 145 acting credits in her own country, and has earned nine awards for her talent, including a Lifetime Achievement Honorary Award in 2012 from the German Screen Actors Awards.
