Born under the name "Vanda Maria Ribeiro Furtado Tavares de Vasconcelos" on June 17, 1962, Lio was made to be a well-traveled, worldwide sensation. After her father was drafted into the Portuguese Army, her family moved to Mozambique. After her parents divorced, Lio moved with her mother and stepfather to Brussels, Belgium. As an adult, her artistic endeavors have emanated primarily from France, and the bushy-browed brunette Lio has been equated to a European version of Madonna, except without the world domination and the children's book. Like America's Material Girl, Lio is known by but a single name — which she took from a character in the Barbarella comic books by Jean-Claude Forest — and she balances two simultaneous careers, one as a musical sensation, the other as a movie star. Although the pouting, passion-kissed face of Lio has yet to become anywhere near as famous as Madge's, the scrumptious Latina lovely has garnered a string of positive acting reviews, beginning with her screen debut, Les Annees 80 (1983). Lio has also left a legacy of titty and assy on film, which might be a lesson to her Stateside counterpart. Some of her other onscreen credits include works such as À dix minutes de nulle part (2011), Tiger Lily, quatre femmes dans la vie (2013), Nos chers voisins (2013), Le sang de la vigne (2013), Facing the Mermaid (2017), Stars 80, la suite (2017), and The Traveller (2020).
