As inspiring, mysterious, and curvy as the river Nile itself, actress Polly Niles opens the hard-as-nails blaxploitation classic Superfly (1972) with an onslaught of undeniably feminine allure. Tall, dark, and badass Ron O’Neal, as the flick’s coke-peddling anti-hero, shares a bed with powerfully pretty Polly and announces that he’s got some business to take care of outside their apartment. Polly asks when he’ll be coming back and Ron declines to answer, thereby again driving home the film’s anti-drug message. Any man who could so easily pull himself away from Polly has obviously got a problem.
