It was acclaimed filmmaker Robert Altman who gave lavishly lanky, deliciously ditzy Shelley Duvall roles in the films for which she is best known--save that of Wendy Torrance in The Shining (1980). She appeared as Astrodome usher Suzanne Davis in the experimental comedy Brewster McCloud (1970); frontierswoman Ida Coyle in the revisionist western McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971); health spa worker Millie Lammoreaux in the alt-drama 3 Women (1977), and the role to which she will be perpetually linked, that of cartoon-come-to-life Olive Oyl in the live-action Robin Williams-led Popeye (1980). And it was Altman who undoubtedly convinced the inimitably structured Duvall to engage in a full-frontal bathing scene in his Thieves Like Us (1974) and strip down to her shockingly sheer skivvies in his epic Nashville (1975). As you can see, from 1970 to 1980 Shelley was one of the busiest bees in Hollywood. If only she had an equally busy beaver... Forty years later, Keechie from Thieves Like Us remains her only nude role. Shelley continued her momentum into the '80s with appearances in the films Time Bandits (1981) and Roxanne (1987) as well as the children's TV shows Tall Tales & Legends and Nightmare Classics, the former of which earned her an Emmy nomination. The '90s brought more success to Shelley via the films The Underneath (1995) and The Portrait of a Lady (1996). In 2002 Shelley retired from acting--but not before showing a bit of tit meat in Twilight of the Ice Nymphs (1997). That's Duvall she wrote.
