Sofia Moran started her career off in her native Phillipines in the 1968 picture Quinto de Alas, and although she was soon billed as “The Filipino Sophia Loren,” most likely because of the similarity of their names and not much else, she never really made it to international stardom. After 20 movies, including such Tagalog-language classics as Daredevil, Kalinga, and Marupok, Sofia officially retired in 1975. Thankfully, she did make it into one American film of note during her all-too-brief cinematic career, 1971’s Women in Cages, the Mother of all Women-in-Prison movies.
