Tanya Allen's career got off to a great start, with a role as April Kyle in Spenser: Ceremony (1993), a TV movie based on Robert Urich’s TV series Spenser for Hire. The movie was filmed in Canada, which is one reason Tanya got the gig—she’s a Canadian from Toronto. She was only 18 at the time, but the job cemented her career goals and she started booking various TV series and other TV movies in Australia. She nabbed a leading role as Del Jordan in the TV movie Lives of Girls & Women (1994), and goes for a naked swim, with the camera situated behind her offering up a splendid shot of her splendid rump. The role earned her a nomination for a Gemini Award, the Aussie equivalent of a Primetime Emmy. She got another one when she played punk rock singer Astrid Kirsh in Platinum (1997), another TV movie. Tanya then ventured on to the big screen for the role of Sarah in Behind the Lines (1997), also known as Regeneration, a UK and Canada production that co-starred Jonathan Pryce, Jonny Lee Miller, and Dougray Scott, among other famous faces.
