As she is torn between her desire for either solid, bourgeois comfort or romance, she keeps up a running dialogue with herself regarding her two lovers and the expectations of society. An unwanted pregnancy serves to confuse things even more. Ignore the giant bloomers on Macha Méril and instead focus on the sweet little left teatlet she eventually exposes.
