Translated to Beloved, this Italian drama adapted from a 2025 novel by the book’s writer, Ilaria Bernardini, centers on two women who become connected without ever meeting. One of them is Nunzia (Tecla Insolia), a nineteen-year-old studying far away from home whose life is upended by an unwanted pregnancy. The other is forty-year-old Maddalena (Miriam Leone), who has the exact opposite problem. She’s married to a pianist named Luca (Stefano Accorsi) and they’ve been desperately trying for a baby, but have been suffering through one miscarriage after another. When the couple decides to consider adoption, opportunity seems to shine on them, though fear and doubt threaten to interfere.
