Such, in short, is the story of An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). Richard Gere portrays a cocky wannabe fighter pilot from the wrong side of the tracks who commits himself to a rigorous training program, overcomes adversity and obstacles, recognizes what is truly important in life, finds true love and drives off to live happily and principled for the rest of his life. Knowing all this beforehand will not detract one bit from the enjoyment of An Officer and a Gentleman.
