French dish Michèle Mercier takes on the title role in the globe-spanning adventure Angélique et le sultan (1968). Believing that she will be able to live a life of ease with her husband, Jeoffrey de Peyrac (Robert Hossein), Angélique is in for a rude awakening when she gets kidnapped and sold as a slave girl to the Sultan of Morocco. Jeoffrey then scrambles to free his beloved, while Angélique works her wiles with a mind on escape. This lavish production is at its loveliest whenever Michèle appears scantily clad, which, given the desert setting, happens often.
