Using the unlucky character of Terry, played by Victoria Vetri in the original 1968 film Rosemary’s Baby, this horror prequel aims to expand on the lore of the Bramford building and its creepy tenants. Julia Garner steps into Terry Gionoffrio’s dance shoes as she has just moved to New York City from a small town in Nebraska with the hope of making it to Broadway. But in the midst of her big stage debut, Terry hurts her ankle and ends up addicted to pain pills and back at square one. In her desperation to get a job, she follows theatre producer Alan Marchand (Jim Sturgess) to his home, which just happens to be the Bramford. Alan’s neighbors Minnie and Roman Castevet (the overbearing Satanists from the original, now played by Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally) take pity on Terry, and get her a room in the building, which leads to Alan, thoroughly impressed by Terry’s tolerance for trauma, getting her into the chorus of a musical called The Pale Crook. Now Terry, the original target for the plot to bring forth the end of the world, finds herself dealing with all manner of demonic nightmares as she careens towards her tragic end. Though there’s no nudity to be had, Julia does spend a few moments stripped down to her skivvies while examining her body, and then there’s Rosy McEwen’s pert pokies as a bullying fellow dancer to help make your palms rosy too!
