In the sudsy romantic drama At First Sight (1999), a blind man’s affair with an ambitious Manhattan architect comes to have an unexpected and life-changing effect. Blind since the age of three, Virgil (Val Kilmer) immediately responds to the warmth of spirit exuded by Amy (Mira Sorvino), a career-minded New Yorker. When Amy suggests an experimental procedure to restore Virgil’s sight, the man is shocked to discover not only that he can see, but also that vision’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. Okay, of course there are drawbacks, but being able to scope Sorvino in lacy lingerie is not one of them.
