Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau play lifelong besties Eden and Dawn in actress Pamela Adlon’s feature directorial debut, and their tradition of seeing a movie on Thanksgiving is disrupted after 27 years when Dawn goes into labor at the theater. Despite being close enough to feel comfortable looking inside each other’s perineums, Dawn’s growing familial obligations start to make Eden feel like an outsider in Dawn’s life, and she ends up in the arms of an actor she meets on the subway (Stephan James). Their one-night stand results in Eden getting pregnant, which she decides to raise alone after the father unexpectedly dies. Dawn vows to be there for the single mother, but it’s a promise that ends up being hard to keep thanks to conflicting schedules, health issues, and other life changes. Ilana is the only one of the two to show skin, first in some skimpy yoga outfits while instructing classes but then she’s completely stripped down and slipping a nip in the shower when it’s time to give birth, making her our favorite babe of the bunch.
