Personal passions clash with epic histories in the taut German thriller Die Spur des Bernsteinzimmers (1992). The narrative centers on a mysterious antechamber, known as “The Amber Room,” which was built in one of the palaces of Peter the Great. During WWII, Nazi soldiers removed the room as part of their systemic theft of world masterpieces. Decades later, a trio of adventurers set out in search of the treasure--a music scholar (Uwe Kockisch), a professional thief (Ulrich Tukur), and a woman with a profound family secret (Corinna Harfouch). Of these Indiana Jones wannabes, Harfouch wins points for being easiest on the eyes. The chesty adventurer shows her flare for the exotic in a series of romps with lucky suitors.
