But Gabrielle (2005), based on a short story by Joseph Conrad, is the autopsy of a marriage, a wrenching drama that takes a dim view of love in the City of Lights. Isabelle plays the title character who leaves her man a Dear John letter, but, dear God, what a body she has. Isabelle shows everything she’s got, and that’s a lot of what Mr. Skin likes to call the moist! As hard as it is to watch the disintegration of a marriage, you’ll be harder watching Isabelle.
