One universal necessity of this life is that, as the song goes, you've gotta have heart. The title ticker of Heart Condition (1990) proves to be a versatile and indomitable pump. Improbable as such a premise may seem, a black lawyer who specializes in saving big-time drug dealers from doing serious jail time is despised by an old-school white cop whose outmoded beliefs include locking up dope pushers and throwing away the key. The uptight Caucasian's antipathy toward the swinging brother is further aggravated by the decision of whitey's ex-girlfriend to bed down with the Afro attorney. All these entanglements are straightened out when the pale policeman suffers a massive heart attack and receives a transplant of the black barrister's ventricle system. Along with a sump for his blood supply, the near-death detective inherits the shadowy ghost of his dead nemesis, and the spooky presence will not allow the copper to rest until he tracks down the black benefactor's murderer.
