Lifted directly from the memoirs of famous singer Régine Zylberberg, the French made-for-TV production Je m'appelle Régine (1996) sketches the Polish-Jewish woman’s rise from humble beginnings, as well as her traumatic experiences during wartime. Hiding from Nazis in occupied Paris, the vivacious Régine later invented the discotheques that were to flourish throughout Europe. Claire Keim is suitably charming as the multi-millionaire singer-actress who introduced Europe to cultural exports as diverse as disco and Chubby Checker records. She even drops her top to lounge around in the forest with one of her boy toys in one scrumptious, exotic scene.
