A skinternational biopic co-written and directed by Maïwenn, who also stars as the titular Jeanne Becú, a woman born out of wedlock in 1743 to a poor seamstress who eventually grows up to become a world-class courtesan. Her beauty and reputation garner the attention of the court of Versailles, and with the help of her benefactor/husband Le Comte du Barry (Melvil Poupaud), Jeanne becomes the new favorite mistress of King Louis XV (Johnny Depp), much to the chagrin of the King’s bullying daughters - not to mention Marie Antoinette (Pauline Pollman), who snubs Jeanne every chance she gets. It also doesn’t help that Jeanne scoffs when it comes to the stuffy behaviors expected in high society.
