It’s a Tyler Perry Medea movie without much Medea, instead this Netflix comedy focuses on her ex-pimp brother Joe (also played by Perry), his son, Brian (Perry yet again), and Brian’s son, Brian Junior aka B.J. (Jermaine Harris). Thanks to Brian, B.J. has lived a pretty sheltered life, to the point where he knows very little about his own culture and what it means to be Black in America. Brian realizes the error of his ways when B.J. rejects the idea of going to an HBCU in favor of Pepperdine University, a private Christian school in Malibu, California. So against his better judgement, Brian agrees to let Joe drive B.J. across the country to visit the campus in the hopes that antics will ensue and B.J. will gain some perspective along the way. The journey is definitely a learning experience, especially when the duo ends up at a brothel.
