A man gets a magical piece of leather that grants wishes at a high cost in La peau de chagrin (2010). Raphael (Thomas Coumans) has gambled away his last dime and his only friend left is his loyal girlfriend, Pauline (Annabelle Hettmann). While walking home one night Raphael comes across a mysterious shop and the proprietor offers him a magical piece of leather with an odd etching on it. The skin will grant any wish desired but with every wish the skin will decrease in size and Raphael’s own physical vitality will shrink as well. With no thought to the future Raphael starts wishing for wealth and power but soon finds himself becoming miserable and decrepit.
