Though Eric Lombard (Brett Dalton) isn’t making it into the NFL anytime soon now he’s been sidelined by an injury, he’s still hopeful for the future and decides to whisk his girlfriend Colleen (Emily Atack) away to the Italian city of Florence to visit his cousin Anna (Stana Katic) where he plans to ask Colleen to marry him. Unfortunately, she turns him down, and that sends Eric into a deep depression. What does he do now? Go back to the US where it seems his only option is to become a boring lawyer? No, instead, Anna’s husband Gianni (Marco Bonini) introduces him to a brutal Italian pastime: Calcio Storico. Developed during the Middle Ages, Calcio Storico is a very early and violent form of soccer/football that Eric appears to excel at. A lot of the locals aren’t keen on an American joining the league, though, and things get even more complicated when sparks fly between him and Stefania (Alessandra Mastronardi), the girlfriend of the team captain (Alessandro Preziosi).
