Any vaguely dissatisfied adult who grew up in an acutely dissatisfied home has endured enough therapy to know that no family has any chance of cleanly escaping the sins of the father. The pater familia of Manhood (2003) is a continuation of the pathologically philandering title character of Jack the Dog (2001). Jack, reprised in the role by suave, sensitive, and sly Nestor Carbonell, has roped in his compulsive carnality and desires nothing more than to salvage a decent life with his offspring and mate. The problem is that ever since that slick and sleazy serpent in the Garden of Eden presented the fruit of all temptation to sinuous Eve, the apple has never fallen far from the tree. It's no consolation to Jack that his troubles, like his kids for instance, are all of his own creation.
