Romantic comedy conventions get a South of the Border spin in the Mexican romantic comedy No eres tu, soy yo (It’s Not You, It’s Me) (2010). Javier (Eugenio Derbez) is a successful surgeon who thinks he has the perfect life- until his foxy new bride Maria (Alejandra Barros) blindsides him with the announcement that she’s leaving. The reason? “It’s not you, it’s me.” Crushed, Javier goes to a psychiatrist, but when the doc fails to give him the head-shrinking he’s looking for, he turns to his his ex Julia (Martina Garcia) for comfort. And even that is rife with complications…
