Director Samuel Fuller was never accused of running away from a tough subject, and his final feature, Street of No Return (1989), is a brutal evaluation of the human condition that forms a logical extension from such hard-bitten Fuller fare as The Naked Kiss (1964) and White Dog (1982). A desultory and haphazardly talented musician hooks up with a woman who represents some form of new beginning for him. Unfortunately, she is already taken, the compromised girlfriend of a slick operator who incites race riots with the intention of devaluing a group of properties and turning them into profitable crack houses.
