The son of a Brooklyn garage mechanic flirts with greener pastures in the coming-of-age story The Flamingo Kid (1984). Matt Dillon stars as Jeffrey Willis, a restless teenager who eyes a cabana job at a posh Long Island resort during one of his high-school summers. Dad Arthur (Hector Elizondo) tries wrangling his son into joining him for long days at the family garage but eventually relents and lets Jeff learn the ways of the world the hard way. Zeroing in on a flashy car dealer with a knack for gambling (Richard Crenna), Jeff soon realizes that the illusion of fortune is fleeting. Fortunately the summer job isn’t a total bust, as the club proves a prime pick-up spot for babes. Dillon gets down and dirty with Janet Jones in a sex scene that will have you wondering why the Missouri-bred actress never broke into Hollywood’s top tier.
