While he’s asleep, floundering Englishman-in-New-York Gary (Martin Freeman) repeatedly has visions of a mystery beauty played by Penélope Cruz. Then he meets the literal woman of his dreams in real life. No wonder they call this movie The Good Night (2007). Gary seems to have it pretty great to begin with, as his live-in girlfriend is portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow. Still, he’s consumed by Cruz, whom he chases after getting lucid-dreaming lessons from an expert in the field (Danny DeVito), but not so much that he can turn down a lapdance from nipple-flashing Sonia Doubell. Her two turn this into one great night.
