Two of her earliest films also featured another soon-to-be celeb from the Lone Star State. Renée had a small uncredited role in 1993’s Dazed and Confused, which featured Matthew McConaughy, and a year later he would be her costar in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. She’d also nab small parts in the 90s cult classics Reality Bites and Empire Records, but it was in Love and a .45 (1994) that viewers got their first and, for a long time, only look at Renée's lovely body. Now that Renée was finally being seen as a lead, she got her big break: playing Tom Cruise’s love interest in the mega-hit Jerry Maguire (1996). Remember “show me the money?” Well, while she didn't show us the honey, Renée was still charming in a girl-next-door-that-we'd-love-to-bang kind of a way. After a brief engagement to funnyman Jim Carrey (her costar in the Farrelly bros comedy Me, Myself, & Irene), Renée put on some pounds and squeezed into a Playboy Bunny suit for her next smash hit film adaptation, Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), and then lost it for a sleek and sensual turn as a femme fatale in the blockbuster musical Chicago (2002). Her partner in crime, Catherine Zeta-Jones ended up taking home the Oscar for that, but don’t worry, Renée scooped up her own Best Supporting Actress award the very next year for her gruff-voiced performance in Cold Mountain (2003). After two more outings as the incomparable Bridget Jones, she ended up winning her second Oscar for portraying Judy Garland in a 2019 biopic, but it would take more than singing and dancing to make Skin fans get happy.
