Those darn virtual-reality computer games are more lifelike every day! Just ask the estranged and strange teenager played by Edward Furlong in the creepy thriller Brainscan (1994) what he thinks about cyber simulation. Furlong has lost one parent to death and the other to careerism. Left to his own devices, the morbidly inclined kid nurtures himself with a steady diet of gory graphics and mutilation movies, with brief breaks to sneak around the neighborhood peeking into likely bedroom windows. Furlong's character fits perfectly into the target audience for a new interactive game that allows players to reenact grisly murders. The fun crosses over to fully freaky mayhem when an authentic severed foot shows up in Eddie’s refrigerator.
