Rossy de Palma is the chosen name of Rosa Elena García Echave, who was actually born in Palma de Mallorca in Spain (Get it now? She’s Rosa from Palma, aka Rossy de Palma). The dark-haired chica with striking features was discovered by famous Spanish film guy Pedro Almodóvar while the two were at the same café in Madrid, and he’s put her in several of his films, including Law of Desire (1987), Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990), Broken Embraces (2009), Julieta (2016), and Parallel Mothers (2021). She also played Juana in Kika (1993) and Rosa in The Flower of My Secret Life (1995) in his films, both roles which earned the star Goya Award (like an Oscar) nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Not just reliant on Almodóvar for her parts, she’s also been in plenty of projects without him, and has appeared as Maria in Madame (2017) with Harvey Keitel, as the farmer’s wife in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018) with Adam Driver, as Isabelle of Castile in the Starz mini-series The White Princess with Jodie Comer, popped up in the Madonna: Truth or Dare (1991) documentary, and also showed up in George Michael’s 1992 video for “Too Funky” directed by Thierry Mugler. Rossy has also modeled for the kinky couture of designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, and played Pilar in Robert Altman’s Prêt-à-Porter, aka Ready to Wear (1994), a model who goes bare with a gaggle of other models to cap off a runway show. Though her hair covers the good up top, Mr. Skin swears that’s a bit of bush…
