1930s comic strip and radio serial hero Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) got an updated image in this campy sci-fi epic with an equally epic soundtrack by Queen. When Ming the Merciless (Max Von Sydow) threatens to destroy Earth, Flash teams up with Dr. Zarkov (Chaim Topol) and nubile newswoman Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) to topple his evil and brightly colored empire. Careful, you might hurt your eyes trying to catch a flash of skin from either Melody or Mr. Skin Hall-of-Famer Ornella Muti, who plays Ming's delectable but dastardly daughter. It doesn't happen. However, both girls do give us tantalizing glimpses of what we're missing in their skimpy space outfits. Nudity must be against the law in Ming's empire. No wonder they call him Ming the Merciless!
