Back in the 1970s, a loosely connected gang of stoner kids in Venice Beach, California, spent their sunny afternoons skateboarding around town and doing the things bored adolescents do when they have little or no parental supervision. Perhaps even as they swooped along the sidewalks of that beachfront town, high on weed, wine, or inhalants, these long-haired wastrels envisioned that one day after the turn of the century their youthful adventures would be elevated by media and movies to the stuff of youth-culture icons. Now it seems the whole world has gone punk rock, and the Lords of Dogtown (2005) have been crowned the coolest bad kids the world has ever known.
